We believe sustainability is about more than the materials we use in our print work. It is also about looking after the places we live and work in. That is why Dynamic Print was pleased to support a community litter pick organised by the Taverham & Drayton Litter Pickers in Norfolk.
A local litter pick with a big impact
The litter pick took place in Drayton, Norfolk, with ten local volunteers giving just one hour of their time to help clean up the area. In that short time, an incredible 31.7kg of rubbish was collected. It is a good reminder of just how much litter can accumulate in our streets, verges and green spaces — and how much difference a small group of people can make when they work together. For us, supporting projects like this is a natural extension of our approach to sustainability at Dynamic Print.
Why litter matters to wildlife
Litter doesn’t just make an area look untidy. Plastic, cans, glass and other waste can pose a risk to wildlife and can find its way into the natural environment. Bees and other pollinating insects are particularly important to our ecosystems. They help pollinate many of the plants, flowers, fruit and crops that we rely on. Creating and protecting areas where pollinators can thrive is something everyone can contribute towards, whether that means planting wildflowers, leaving part of a garden to grow naturally or simply picking up litter when we see it.
Seeded paper for pollinators
As part of our support for the litter pick, Dynamic Print provided volunteers with goodie bags containing seeded paper. Seeded paper is made with seeds embedded into the paper itself. Once it has served its purpose, it can be planted in soil, watered and cared for, giving the seeds the opportunity to grow. It is one of our favourite examples of how print can have a life beyond the initial piece of marketing. Supporting our local community
The litter pick also raised funds for the Taverham & Drayton Food Bank, helping provide support to people in the local community who needed it. We particularly liked that the project brought several things together: volunteers giving their time, a local business providing sponsorship, an environmental benefit for the area and money being raised for a good local cause. Sustainability isn’t always about making a huge change. Sometimes it is about doing something practical, locally and consistently.
Can businesses make a difference?
We think they can. Whether it is sponsoring a community project, choosing more sustainable print materials, reducing unnecessary waste or supporting local environmental initiatives, businesses have plenty of opportunities to make a positive contribution. And sometimes, the simplest idea can be the most effective: pick up some litter, plant some flowers and give something back to the community around you.
